Message working as a perfect insulator and there's NO small amount of leakage current flowing from the +12v potential sitting on the injector coil. Unfortunately that's probably not the case --- the combination of some moisture (water) + the ethanol in the gasoline would make for a good conductor.

If (as speculated) the plastic insulating jacket on the coil core breaks down just a little bit - that would allow a small amount of leakage current to flow from the coil winding into the gasoline+water+ethanol (a good conductor) which in turn is fully in contact with the injectors outer metal body -- which is fully grounded to the fuel rail. This current flow over a long period of time is thought to be the cause of the coil wires becoming corroded (due to electrolysis) and eventually breaking ...

The various mods that have been posted which turn off the +12v to the coils when the car is off is a way to reduce the amount of time the coils are being exposed to this electrolysis....
